Compactor Repair Tech

Wichita, Kansas

Waste Connections has an immediate position available for a compactor repair technician located in Wichita, Kansas.  In this position you will wear a few different hats but main duties will include welding, fabricating and compactor repair. This is a full time, long term position with a great company.  If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and are a self-motivated, hardworking individual with good communication skills we want to talk to you.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Diagnose and repair equipment including compactors and balers
 Repairs or replaces parts as directed by a work order system. Completes field service reports in a work order system
 Overhauls or replaces machine components and replace worn items
 Communicates with supervisor and/or equipment operators for clarification of problems. May discuss preventive techniques with equipment users to minimize future repairs
 Independently troubleshoot and maintain complex electromechanical equipment
 Installs and sets up new equipment and communicates with vendors regarding our service
 Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent
 Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience
 Respond to customer needs in a positive, supportive, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed
 Maintains a clean and safe work area, adheres to all safety policies and procedures
 Follows standard operating procedures
 Cleans and organizes equipment
 Assists to prepare equipment for rent or sale
 Provides assistance to all other levels of technicians as needed in regard to troubleshooting repairs
 Performs other duties as assigned/required
 Maintains paperwork documentation of work performed (work orders) in a complete and timely manner on a daily/job basis
 Documents labor, addition of segments, assuring that work order can be closed and billed as communicated with the customer
 Positively interacts with manager and team members to satisfy customer needs
 Communicates effectively with both internal and external customers


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 Basic knowledge of elecrtricity and electrical components.

 Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems.

 Basic mechanic skills


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 Ability to use typical hand and mechanics tools and inspection gages
 Ability to work from drawings, verbal instructions, or sketches
 Ability to work safely with cleaners, lubricants, and other chemicals as needed
 Ability to work in an area with moderate noise (forklift traffic, conveyor system, etc.)
 Ability to work in a confined area
 Ability to frequently and safely push, pull, bend, twist, sit, stand, kneel, squat and occasionally lift up to 70 pounds
 Working ability to read and follow written and oral instructions and to hear at a level sufficient to communicate with staff
 Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
 Ability to maintain effective working relationships with peers, customers, and supervisors
 Ability to maintain a strong attention to detail
 Ability to communicate effectively and proficiently in both oral and written form
 Ability to work overtime as needed
 Ability to adhere to company rules and regulations
 Basic computer skills
 Ability to maintain safe and clean work environment
 Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, boots, and hearing protection)
