We have an immediate position available for aHeavy Equipment Operatorfor ourOttawa LandfillinNavan, ON.

SUMMARY:Under general supervision, operates various equipment including graders, tractors, backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, and trash trucks. May also include forklifts and front skid steer loaders.

**2 Month Contract, possible permanent**

Location: 3354 Navan Rd Ottawa, ON K4B 1H9

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates graders for leveling and operates tractors to load materials such as dirt and rocks.

  • Operates backhoe and front end loaders as required.

  • Operates forklifts and dump trucks to transport trash and materials.

  • Operates various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, snow removal, and related assignments.

  • Performs routine inspection and maintenance on equipment such as checking oil, water, and tires.

  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Occasional weekends when needed.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience that is directly. related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Heavy Equipment Operator, 1-2 yrs experience required.

  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment tests.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, bio hazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.

  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.

  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels.

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

  • DZ Driver's License preferred.
