A Day in the Life of an Engineer:

  • Provide innovative, cost effective solutions to the environmental, safety/health, and compliance issues at landfills, transfer stations, hauling operations and other businesses in the Western Region.

  • Collaborate with finance, legal, operations, maintenance, and safety in the development and implementation of environmental programs.

  • Manage the timing, quality, and cost of environmental engineering support services such as auditing, planning, inspecting, monitoring, recordkeeping, and training.

  • Analyze data and prepare summaries, recommendations, and cost estimates for consideration by local and regional management.

  • Conduct on-site audits, technical visits, and training.  Site visits will involve exposure to environmental elements which will include chemicals, dirt, odors, noise, wastewater, and weather extremes.

  • Assist local and regional management in the review of design and development plans, cost estimates, and the evaluation of engineering proposals and specifications.

  • Interact with Contractors, Consultants and Operations staff on the implementation and management of construction projects including cell development, site access and buildings.

  • Compose technical reports and compliance documentation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. 

  • Must have minimum of 1-3 years of previous experience in a highly regulated industry, or recent internship experience.  Waste industry experience is preferred.

  • A working knowledge of basic environmental and safety regulations.

  • The willingness and ability to travel periodically for training and professional development

  • The willingness to spend long hours in the field assisting operations personnel. Conditions often include steep terrain, decomposing waste odors, and inclement weather  

  • The willingness to be trained on and certified to operate drone survey equipment.

  • Superior oral and written skills.

  • Demonstrated excellence in communicating with peers, regulators, government officials, and the public.
