Environmental Compliance

Waste Connections is looking to hire an Environmental Manager to manage environmental program and special waste streams for facilities across 8 states.  This is an excellent opportunity with Waste Connections!

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Review and approve industrial and special waste profiles against local, state, and federal regulations to protect facility personnel and ensure landfill compliance.
  • Support our customers and sales team in identifying and optimizing waste handling solutions and advancing environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Review and understand all environmental permits governing our various facilities (landfill, transfer station, material recycling facility, and hauling) and provide guidance to Region Engineers and District leadership to verify compliance.
  • Conduct environmental audits at our various landfill, transfer station, material recycling facility, and hauling locations.
  • Perform environmental compliance activities through communication with Regulatory Agency representatives and third-party consultants (e.g. SPCC, SWPPP, groundwater monitoring, and Title V).

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Ability to follow established procedures with minimal amount of direct supervision.
  • Capability to interpret documents such as safety rules, contracts, federal, state and local regulations, engineering design and operating plans, maintenance and procedural manuals.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Aptitude to define problems, collect data, interpret data and draw valid conclusions.
  • Experience to predict and manage future compliance needs and adapt to changing regulatory environments.
  • Skill to build and maintain strong relationships with sales team, operations team, outside consultants and vendors, and customers.
  • Desire to be a leader in the company’s special waste market and to learn and grow all business sectors across the company.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, or related field.
  • 4 or more years of practical environmental experience.
  • The ability to travel up to 50 percent of the time.
  • CHMM, CHMP, or CHP certifications preferred.
